Managing partner Aliaksandr Danilevich took part as an arbitrator in the VI International Student Competition “Model of International Commercial Arbitration” organized by Kutafin Moscow State Law University and Arbitration Center at the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP). In 2021, for the first time competition was held in a new mixed online format. Only the strongest teams passed the absentee stage based on the results of the evaluation of the memoranda.
This year, the central themes of the competition were the return of unjust enrichment under a cross-border contract for the performance of work, the possibility of applying the concept of force majeure, issues of the admissibility of online hearings in the absence of the consent of one of the parties, and sanctions issues in arbitration.
The competition is designed to stimulate interest in private international law, popularize international commercial arbitration as an alternative method for resolving commercial disputes, as well as the activities of the Arbitration Center under the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) as one of the leading centers for resolving cross-border business disputes. The competition is also aimed at developing friendly relations between representatives of various law schools and the exchange of professional experience between leading practicing lawyers and legal theorists.The purpose of the Competition is to improve students’ skills in representing the interests of parties in arbitration proceedings, interpreting and applying legal norms, forming and presenting their legal position, acquiring new knowledge on the most pressing issues arising in the course of arbitration or arbitration proceedings, as well as gaining experience in drafting and filing of adversarial documents.
